11-11-11 National Corduroy Day

11-11-11 National Corduroy Day - Sunday River has declared today, 11:11:11, as National Corduroy Day. But wait, that doesn't mean you should don your wide whale corduroy pants. No, this special day celebrates the perfectly rippled groomed snow that Sunday River is reputed for.

In partnership with PistenBully, the German manufacturer of grooming machines, this first annual National Corduroy Day is a tribute to the oft perfectly groom corduroy at Sunday River that appears like repeating 11's in the snow. It's a clever campaign on the coinciding calendar date of Nov. 11, 2011.

Sunday River has been heralded for their exceptional grooming for years; their fleet of 16 grooming machines includes two brand new PistenBulley 400s which are on display today at the Barker Base Lodge parking lot. No, you can't take these groomers out for a free test drive on National Corduroy Day, but you can ski the cord at Sunday River which is now open seven days a week for skiing and riding, currently served by the Locke Mountain triple on T2 from midstation up.

It is of course Veterans' Day, and Sunday River is offering free skiing and riding today to all active Military and Veterans and their families.

I'm not very superstitious about time and date metrics, but I like the symbolism of Sunday River and PistenBully's tribute to carve-able cord on 11:11:11. I wonder if numerologist would agree with the old skier's saying, "figure 11's to the base, last guy buys the beer!" on 11:11:11?
