Wife tries to unload hubby on Craigslist

Wife tries to unload hubby on Craigslist - Alyse Baddly took a surprising approach to her frustration with husband, Kyle's, video gaming. Frustrated wife puts gamer husband up for sale on Craigslist. Guys, be careful how involved you get with this season's awesome crop of video games. Your wife may try to sell you off. Kyle Baddley learned this the hard way earlier this month, when his wife Alyse got frustrated by his constant Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 playing and offered him up to the highest bidder on Craigslist.

"I am selling my 22 year old husband," the ad read. "He enjoys eating and playing video games all day. Easy to maintain, just feed and water every 3-5 hours. You must have Internet and space for gaming. Got tired of waiting so free to good home. If acceptable replacement is offered will trade."

The ad, of course, was a joke. But that didn't stop people from replying.

One woman offered to retrain him. Another guy said he was willing to trade spots with Kyle, noting that he was both house-trained and preferred books to games.

"We didn't think we would get any responses at all, but we've gotten so many," Alyse said. "Someone even offered a blue bag of Skittles."

Some people, though, took it a bit too seriously. One person suggested she use the free time to go out on her own, while others wrote that they were concerned about Alyse's relationship with her husband.

Among the unconcerned was Kyle's mother. She not only encouraged Alyse to run the ad, she helped her write it.

Kyle, it seems, has learned his lesson and has pulled back a bit from his Modern Warfare 3 playtime. His father notes that the couple is headed to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with Kyle's sister.

Kyle's taking it in good humor -- but he points out for the record that his wife was in line with him when the game went on sale.

"I love my wife," he says. "She supported me when I got the game. We stayed until midnight to get the game when it first came out. It's just funny."

Naughty & nice companies
Naughty & nice companies - Which companies are naughty, nice?. If Santa were to rate companies on their customer service policies, which ones would get lumps of coal in their holiday stockings this year? Consumer Reports released its 2011 Naughty & Nice Holiday List this week, with companies such as Verizon, The Swiss Colony and American Apparel scheduled to look for lumps of coal in their stockings next month.

Taking a cue from Santa Claus, the product-and-service-review publication rated well-known companies on their behavior over the past year, specifically as related to their customer-service policies. The list is based on input from Consumer Reports editors and reporters covering companies offering everything from air travel to apparel, and credit cards to concert tickets.

Introduced in 2010, the list is timed for release during the holiday season -- when shopping and travel are up, and shoppers are at their most vulnerable, Consumer Reports said.

Who's been naughty

Verizon made it onto the "naughty" list for claiming to alert customers before they exceed their monthly allotment of minutes, messages or data -- but sometimes failing to notify customers until after those limits are exceeded (and then trying to sell the customer a more expensive plan). The problem should be fixed soon, however, thanks to an FCC deal with the association representing wireless carriers that will reduce cellphone bill shock by making such alerts mandatory.

American Apparel's inclusion was prompted by the company's two different return policies -- allowing online customers 45 days to return items for a refund or credit, but giving in-store customers only 30 days to make a return, and offering only store credit with no option for a refund.

Also on the "naughty" list is Southwest Airlines, which was criticized for charging its passengers $10 per flight to earn a better place in line for boarding. One Consumer Reports reader expressed surprise at the airlines' inclusion, however, noting that Southwest allows each passenger to check two bags for free. That policy earned the company a spot on the publication's "nice" list in 2010.

The only repeat offender from 2010 was Verizon, which was dinged last year for a $350 early termination fee on smartphone contracts.

More nice than naughty, however

The list includes 10 "nice" companies, and only nine "naughty" ones, though Tod Marks, senior editor at Consumer Reports, clarified to The New York Times that this ranking is not based on companies' overall performance. "It's a list that's compiled based on specific policies that we thought were particularly customer friendly -- or not," he said.

Some of the good policies included Cablevision's deep discounts on movie tickets, popcorn and soda at participating theaters -- plus free tickets on Tuesdays -- for subscribers who opt for Internet, phone and TV service through the telecom company.

Also lauded was Crutchfield, a Virginia-based consumer-electronics merchant that offers no-extra-charge help with installation, setup, troubleshooting and tech support for the lifetime of purchased products.

Several companies made the list for their return policies, including Costco, REI and South Carolina-based BI-LO supermarkets. And Microsoft was mentioned for taking returns of installed software within 45 days.

Seattle-based Amazon also got a nod -- for taking a stand against poor packaging by encouraging customers to send feedback to manufacturers about their wasteful or frustrating product packaging.

Costco and Orvis both made a second annual appearance on the "nice" list.

Kids trash house with flour in minutes

Kids trash house with flour in minutes - Mary Napoli’s toddler sons cover her living room while she uses the bathroom. Boys dump flour all over house in an unusually uniformly messy way. That two little boys could easily make an epic mess with a five-pound bag of flour is a no-brainer, but did they?

The video is shot from the point of view of their stunned and muttering mom and shows the naughty rug rats frisking in an indoor sandstorm of flour. There's white stuff spread about the floor, couches, and side tables. It is even piled in little drifts on the tops of picture frames.

The house is certainly trashed with what sure looks like real flour. But what's suspicious is how evenly the powdery substance is distributed around the room and how chipper the boys seem--even after they are busted. Anyone who has ever caught a little kid in the middle of some really heinous transgression (or who has been caught themselves) knows how quickly the fun can turn into a blubbering freak out.

Viewers are also suspicious because YouTube has removed comments on the video, but Mary Napoli, the mom behind the video camera, says she removed them on purpose. She assured us that the video is real: "We turned off the comments because they were getting increasingly mean and vulgar." She added, "It's mostly cleaned up now--lol!"

Take a look and tell us what you think.

Lady Gaga Frightens Baby

Lady Gaga Frightens Baby - Monsters can be scary. Mother Monster, otherwise known as Lady Gaga, is no exception. On Wednesday, a fan in London handed the pop star their baby to pose for a picture, but the infant was absolutely terrified! According to the Daily Mail, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby's name is Loissa; photos show the little girl shrieking as she tries to escape Gaga's clutches.

Gaga, 25, wore dark sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat; the singer (real name: Stefani Germanotta) was all smiles with baby Loissa, even planting a kiss on her cheek.

Little Loissa wasn't a fan of hers, but does Gaga want babies of her own someday? "I'm a maternal person, but I'm not feeling the urge to be pregnant," she told England's Jonathon Ross. "Oh my gosh, the fans would kill me. I'm just not ready. I really want to make at least 10 more albums before I do something like that."

Vatican takes legal action over Benetton kissing ads

Vatican takes legal action over Benetton kissing ads - Vatican takes legal action over kissing ads. The Vatican said Thursday that it was taking legal action to prevent the publication of a photo montage showing the pope kissing a leading imam as part of a Benetton advertising campaign. The statement from the Vatican secretary of state came despite an announcement by the Italian clothing company that it was pulling the montage in the wake of severe criticism from the Holy See.

The Vatican said its State Secretariat would ask its lawyers "to take action in Itay and abroad to prevent the circulation in the mass-media and elsewhere of the photo montage produced as part of Benetton's publicity campaign."

It said Benetton's portrayal of Pope Benedict XVI "is wounding not only to the dignity of the pope but also to the sensibilities of the faithful".

Benetton's poster showed Benedict kissing on the lips Egypt's Ahmed el Tayyeb, imam of the Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo and a leading voice in Sunni Islam.

The image is part of a new global advertising campaign called UNHATE that contained a series of photo montages of political and religious leaders kissing.

Other shock pictures show US President Barack Obama kissing Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.

One picture showed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu smooching Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas. In another, French President Nicolas Sarkozy is depicted kissing German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The posters appeared in Benetton clothing stores across the globe as well as in newspapers, magazines and on Internet websites.

The company defended the campaign, saying its purpose "was solely to battle the culture of hate in all its forms".

Within hours of the campaign launch on Wednesday, the Vatican issued a statement expressing "the firmest protest for this absolutely unacceptable use of the image of the Holy Father, manipulated and exploited in a publicity campaign with commercial ends".

"This shows a grave lack of respect for the pope, an offence to the feelings of believers, a clear demonstration of how publicity can violate the basic rules of respect for people by attracting attention with provocation," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said.

The passionate embrace between the pope and the imam was also briefly shown on Wednesday on a banner held up near Rome's landmark Castel Sant'Angelo castle not far from the Vatican.

Benetton ads spark controversy

Benetton ads spark controversy - Ads feature world leaders 'kissing'. A doctored photo of Obama smooching China's president is part of a shocking new campaign. Benetton ‘Unhate’ Ad Campaign Features World Leaders Kissing. At first, the images are shocking. President Obama planting a kiss on Chinese President Hu Jintao’s lips. German Chancellor Angela Merkel smooches French President Nicolas Sarkozy, her nation’s economic rival.

These images aren’t the latest political scandal. They’re a new ad campaign from Italian clothing company United Colors of Benetton called “Unhate.”

The images are digitally manipulated but they send a pointed message. The newly unveiled UNHATE Foundation seeks to promote a culture of tolerance and combat hatred around the world, the company said in a news release.

The campaign was launched today in Paris.

“Unhate is a message that invites us to consider that hate and love are not as far away from each other as we think,” the campaign’s website said. “Actually, the two opposing sentiments are often in a delicate and unstable balance. Our campaign promotes a shift in the balance: don’t hate, Unhate.”

The website features photos of people holding large banners of the images “on the walls of locations symbolic of the desperately-needed peace process: Tel Aviv, New York, Rome, Milan and Paris,” the news release says.

The ads have already become a source of controversy.

After the images went up, the Vatican quickly denounced an image of Pope Benedict XVI kissing Egyptian Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb on the lips.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi called the digitally altered image an “unacceptable” and offensive manipulation of the pope’s likeness, according to the Associated Press.

Benetton removed the image shortly thereafter and it is no longer on the website.

The company is known for its striking, and often controversial, ads. Past ads have shown a priest kissing a nun, a white baby breast-feeding from a black woman and three human hearts with the words “white,” “black” and “yellow” printed over them.

The bush, however, had other ideas and sucked him into itself as he reached for the crowd. Like a true Brazilian, this setback didn't stop his celebration, though.
