Lady Gaga's Surprising Grammy Country Collaboration

Lady Gaga's Surprising Grammy Country Collaboration - Lady Gaga's unlikely collaboration. The singer performs with hitmakers who couldn't look any more different than her. While we've known for some time that Lady Gaga and country stalwarts Sugarland would be performing at Wednesday night's Grammy Nominations Concert, it wasn't until just hours before they took the stage that it was revealed that the divergent hitmakers would be performing together.

Closing out the show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, a piano-bound Gaga was joined by country stalwarts Sugarland to perform her "You and I." Even if the idea of the arty New York pop artist with a country duo from Georgia sounds incongruous, the song choice—with its name-checks to "daddy" and "Jesus Christ"—allowed the disparate artists to find some common ground.

Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Lady G blended their vocals expertly, even if the sight of them together brought to mind the idea of a Goth and sporty kid having to share the stage for a high school play. Specifically, Nettles wore simple tracksuit pants while Gaga dolled her hair up like Marilyn Monroe, covered her eyes in black patches of makeup and flaunted a huge black bow on one shoulder.

If Gaga brought to mind a touch of "Blade Runner" toward the end of the show, she was all Tim Burton when she opened the concert with a steampunk-meets-"Corpse Bride" performance of "Marry the Night."

Gaga... is there anything she can't do? (Aside from beat Adele for the Grammy Album of the Year in 2012, that is.)
