Hurricane Rina - Hurricane Rina lost some of its fury Wednesday but held course for a direct hit on Mexico's popular Caribbean beaches, where authorities ordered people out of low-lying areas.

Hurricane Rina on course for crash into Cancun, As Rina spun toward the Yucatan peninsula coast, locals scrambled to tape up windows, and 1,000 emergency shelters were rushed open as powerful gusts sent palm trees flailing.

Rina, now a category one storm packing sustained winds of 140 kilometers (85 miles) per hour, is expected to come crashing ashore Thursday near internationally renowned "Riviera Maya" hotspots such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, famous for snow-white sands and turquoise sea.

On the beach in Playa del Carmen, Canadian tourist Pat Stevenson told AFP he was "curious."

"We got here a week ago planning to stay until December 3. We know a lot of people left because they were scared. But we are going to stay," he said, adding: "We think that we'll be safe in the hotel shelter."

Local resident Concepcion Tapia was out shopping for last-minute emergency provisions with her daughter and granddaughter. "We are asking God to help us," she said.

Her daughter Laura piped in: "Hurricane Wilma taught us that it is just as likely that nothing at all will happen, as for us to end up having to spend three days indoors after the storm. The only bad thing is that we could not find any more cans of tuna. They ran out everywhere."

Cuba was also being urged to prepare for high winds and heavy rains over the weekend as Rina curls off northward.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said Rina had weakened overnight, when sustained winds had reached 175 kilometers per hour.

But NHC experts said they do not expect it to weaken further before making landfall on Thursday.

The storm is expected to dump 8-16 inches (20-40 cm) on the eastern Yucatan and Cozumel through Friday, the NHC warned. That will come in addition to a storm surge that could be three feet above normal levels, the NHC said.

The US State Department has warned Americans living or on vacation in the area to prepare for the storm, and perhaps consider leaving Mexico as flights could be disrupted once the storm starts to bear down.

A Nicaraguan naval vessel that disappeared on Sunday with 29 people on board during an evacuation mission ahead of the storm was found on Tuesday with all occupants "safe and sound," officials said.

Rina is the sixth hurricane and 17th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. After passing near or over Mexico's Yucatan, it is forecast to weaken as it spins toward Cuba and Florida.

US space agency NASA was taking no chances and evacuated a crew of astronauts from an underwater lab off the coast of Florida where they were training for a possible trip to an asteroid.

Johnny Depp confronts Ricky Gervais – Johnny Depp may be getting the last laugh. But Ricky Gervais is also getting the last laugh on his last laugh.

At the 2011 Golden Globes, host Gervais took biting swipes at many of the stars in the audience. One joke took a jab at Depp and Angelina Jolie, who had both starred in The Tourist. “It seems like everything this year was three dimensional – except the characters in The Tourist,” Gervais said. The camera then panned to a not-happy Depp in the audience.

Depp is not one to forget when he’s been mocked, apparently. The Rum Diary actor’s anger at Gervais is all in good fun however, as he’ll appear on Gervais’ new show, Life’s Too Short, which will debut on Nov. 10 on BBC2, and then on HBO in February 2012.

Gervais and Steven Merchant’s new show follows Warwick Davis, a working little person, as he tries to make it in the entertainment industry.

In the preview clip, Davis brings Depp to meet Gervais and Merchant, and the conversation quickly turns to the Globes.

Depp does a little name dropping, mentioning that he’s working on a film with director Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter (“She thinks you’re an idiot,” Depp tells Gervais.)

Gervais asks Depp if he’s done something to offend him.

“What do you mean? Like trashing me in front of 200 million people at the Golden Globes?” responds Depp.

“I actually got together with a few pals after the awards, and we wrote some jokes about you,” says Depp.

“I want you to know this, and I want you to carry this with you for the rest of your days: No one makes fun of Tim Allen on my watch, and gets away with it.”

Lady Gaga Lettuce Dress, Lady Gaga had grabbed eyeballs, made heads turn and upset animal lovers when she wore a "meat dress" at MTV 2010 Video Music awards.

Looks like her next edible outfit is going to be a dress made out of lettuce leaves. Lady Gaga, who is currently in India to attend the unveiling of the country's first Formula 1 Grand Prix, has been asked by PETA to pose in a dress made out of lettuce leaves while she is in India. Gaga will also be performing on Sunday after the event.

Gaga had worn the meat dress as a protest against the U.S. army's "Don't ask don't tell" policy, which banned gay people from serving in the army. The ban was later lifted. Animal rights group PETA was particularly upset when Gaga wore the Meat Dress in 2010, and in response to that, they had made a dress out of lettuce leaves. Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan had posed for the campaign wearing the dress along with a necklace made of red hot chillies, possibly to put Lady Gaga's meat dress to shame and in an effort to show how sexy vegetarianism can be.

"If she agrees, we'll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads," Sachin Bangera of PETA India told the Associated Press. "It will be a full length gown, and we'll make sure it looks sexy. Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn't wilt."

Gaga arrived in India on Friday and has so far not commented on PETA's request.

Upon her arrival, Gaga was seen wearing a beehive wig with green and saffron highlights - a nod to the colors of the country's flag, and a one-shoulder, colorful dress designed by Indian-born Naeem Khan (see photos).

"Namaste, everyone," she said at a press conference, greeting everyone in Hindi.

"I feel so blessed. I never would have imagined years ago that I would be able to come to India and perform and meet my new amazing fans that are here. The sights here in India are beautiful but the most beautiful sight is the people. I'm looking forward to coming back."

"I have built a special stage for this show that I'm doing on Sunday," she added. "It is unique for India. It has never been done anywhere else in the world. I will be incorporating also collaborations that I did with Indian DJs to the performance. I'm excited for you all to see it."

Gaga's outfit for the concert has not been revealed to the media yet, and Gaga does not want to spoil the surprise by telling people in advance, she said.

When Gaga wore the meat dress in 2010, she had created a controversy, and she said at the "The Ellen Degeneres Show" that she did not mean to cause disrespect to vegetarians by doing so.

Well, she can certainly go ahead with a lettuce dress, and she probably should, as an atonement for her previous "meat dress." In India, cows are considered sacred by Hindus and cattle slaughter is banned in many states.
